Kathy Notyce- Principal

Kathy Notyce

Dear Chris Yung Families and Community,

Welcome to the new school year! I am excited to begin my fourth year serving as the principal of Chris Yung Elementary School (CYES). Let me begin by introducing myself to those families new to our school. My name is Mrs. Notyce, and I am thrilled to welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year. I am looking forward to meeting new families and revisiting with returning families. I’ve spent over 16 years as a classroom teacher, both in the United States and for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools in Panama and Germany. I am beginning my 15th year as an administrator in Prince William County Public Schools. Prior to becoming the principal of Chris Yung ES, I was the principal of Mullen ES. My passion and love for children and the belief that our children deserve the best education continues to guide my decision making daily. I love the opportunity to spend time with children, inspiring and motivating them to recognize and work to their full potential. The quote that best describes how I feel about my career: “Choose a job that you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” (Author Unknown).

There is incredible excitement in the air as teachers, students and parents anticipate beginning our fourth year together. We’ve accomplished a lot over the past three years and remain committed to continuing the work that has been done to make CYES a School of Excellence. We are extremely proud of our end of the year data, which demonstrates that our students learned and achieved at high levels. Our vision is Working collaboratively to achieve success. Our mission is A World Class school committed to excellence. Our motto is Full STEAM Ahead!

I am honored to be part of a dynamic staff of dedicated, talented, caring and committed educators. They provide a safe and caring learning environment for our students. Students will be exposed to a challenging curriculum and instructional activities designed to meet and extend their educational needs. Our students will know that we care about them and they will be challenged daily to take ownership for their learning by coming to school ready to learn. Thank you for sharing your loving and brilliant children with us; they are a joy to work with each day.

One of the school’s greatest strengths is our family and community support. As parents and guardians, you are your child’s first and greatest teacher. Together as a loving school community and dedicated staff, we acknowledge the belief and philosophy that “it takes an entire village to raise and educate a child!” In addition to parent involvement, a strong line of communication between home and school is critical to student success. Some of the ways that you can stay connected with the school are: ClassDojo, Class webpage, Twitter, Facebook, Instant Messenger, Monthly Newsletters, phone calls, emails, conferences, etc.

As excited as I am to provide monthly newsletters about the exciting things happening in our school, I value the face to face interactions the most. As the principal, my door is always open, and I look forward to our collaboration in providing a safe and nurturing environment that promotes academic success for every student. I encourage you to join our wonderful PTO and or Advisory Council and help to move our school “Full STEAM Ahead.” You can reach me via email at notycekd@pwcs.edu or phone at 571.598.3500.

Best Regards,

Kathy Notyce, Principal
