Welcome to 1st Grade!
**Important Upcoming Dates***
April 7th - Teacher Inservice/Work Day No School
April 10 -17th - Spring Break No School
As the year continues we will be spiraling back to some of the concepts previously taught. Students will be asked to dive deeper into the text to explain their thinking. Students will also be looking at understanding the author's purpose/moral of a story they have read or listened to.
In math we are in our 8th unit. We will be exploring growing patterns. These are patterns that do not repeat however they use a repeating role. Skip counting is an example of a growing pattern where there is a rule that is following throughout but the pattern never repeats at the start.
We continue to work on persuasive writing. We will be focusing particularly on book reviews. This not only encourages reading but also gets students writing about their reading and sharing some of their favorite books with the class.
In Science we will once again be looking at seasonal changes. With each new season we talk about what effect the weather has on plants and animals.
Before Spring Break we will also be looking at natural resources that we have here on Earth and what they provide for us. This unit will continue when students return from break on April 18th.
