PWCS Specialty Programs

Dear 5th grade Students and Parents,

Multiple opportunities for students entering middle school are offered in Prince William County Public Schools. Three types of optional specialty programs are available for rising Middle School students: Math/Science at Marstellar, World Language at Parkside and International Baccalaureate at Stonewall Middle. There is also a traditional school for grades 1-8 at Pennington School.

All of the programs require an application. THESE ARE OPTIONAL PROGRAMS. Students residing in Prince William County by January 1 must submit an application by February 1 to be considered for admission for the upcoming school year. Students moving into the county after January 1 should contact the coordinator of the program(s) of interest for more information.

If a program receives applications for more students than the program can accept, a lottery is held to select program participants. If accepted, the student would attend the program at the school where the program is provided. For example, if a student resides in the boundary for Gainesville Middle School but applies and is accepted to the Math and Science Specialty Program at Marstellar, the student would attend Marstellar. Please check the PWCS website for more information regarding each of the specialty programs.

Applications must be completed online and are available on the PWCS website under academics and programs/specialty programs in November.  Contact information for each of the schools we are zoned for is listed below.
