What is STEAM education?

Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) education entails authentic learning experiences for all students with an interdisciplinary and applied approach where all fields connect in complex relationships. In today’s economy, problems are not solved in isolation of a specific discipline, but are solved through multiple approaches and perspectives. A strong STEAM educational foundation helps to prepare our students for tomorrow’s world by emphasizing collaborative, innovative, quantitative and logical analysis rooted in a solid understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.

What are the 21st Century skills we are cultivating in our STEAM Lab at CYES?

We want our learners to grow in the 4 C's:

  • Communication - sharing thoughts, questions, ideas and solutions.
  • Collaboration - working together to reach a goal, putting talents, expertise, and smarts to work.
  • Critical Thinking - looking at problems in a new way and linking learning across subjects and disciplines.
  • Creativity - trying new approaches to get things done equals innovation and invention.

What kind of things will our students learn?

The curriculum in the STEAM Lab will encompass hands-on building with various building tools, recyclable materials, and classroom supplies. Our students will also dive into the early fundamentals of computer science to understand basic coding principles.
