Officer Chris Yung April 13, 1977 - December 31, 2012
An Inspiration to All
Elementary schools bring learning and discovery to young lives filled with limitless possibilities. Students of this school will always be inspired by the memory of a man whose all-too-short life was filled with character, service, and accomplishment.
Officer Chris Yung lived his life around his family, his country, and his community. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps at 18, and proudly served in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Returning home, he served this community as a member of the Prince William County Police Department for seven years. Officer Yung was characteristically rushing to aid others when a motorcycle accident tragically took his life at the age of 35.
He is fondly remembered as "a kind-hearted soul who made everyone think that they were his best friend." Despite having much more to give, Officer Chris Yung managed to leave an indelible imprint on every life he touched.
The naming of Chris Yung Elementary School followed a groundswell of public support from across Prince William County and a unanimous School Board decision. It is a tribute to a special man and a promise of inspiration for generations to come.
